INFECTION CONTROL & STERILISATION

The control of spread of infection has never been as important as it is today in the 21st century. Cross-infection in much easier to control in a small practice than it is in a high-volume practice or clinic. In implant dentistry, sterilisation and surgical protocol is critical to the osseointegration process. An implant that fails to osseointegrate will be lost and with it some of the bone. Subsequent implant placement may not be possible without bone grafting. This will add several more months to the procedure, involve further cost and discomfort for the patient. Every effort must be made to ensure that success first time round.
